Integrated Work was founded in 1998 by Jessica G. Hartung, owner and CEO, on the principle that work can and must become a positive force in people’s lives.
“Our livelihood is blended with our sense of self and our personal growth,” says Jessica. “Who we are and what we do are inextricably intertwined. My grandfather lived this approach to work and life. His greatest successes were the investments he made in other people—taking time to understand and support them. Today, we would call it coaching or capacity building. He helped launch careers and improve lives—including mine.”
The firm based in Boulder, Colorado specializes in working with service organizations that are mission-driven and striving to improve the world in some small—or not so small—way. Such organizations can be found making a significant contribution in governments, nonprofit organizations, entrepreneurial organizations, foundations, universities—in many types of work, but with a common, mission-oriented focus.
Over the years Jessica has hired individuals whose strengths and experience complement her own, all the while upholding values in her business which reflect her personal values, a tradition often found in small businesses.
Jessica and her outstanding, like-minded team work alongside clients to collaboratively create with them the tools, methods and systems they need, offering along the way a blend of education, encouragement, feedback and ideas.
The “integrated” in Integrated Work is defined in three ways:
- We integrate targeted coaching, facilitation, peer learning and consulting to provide what we call capacity building
- We integrate knowledge from our work into both personal and professional lives
- We integrate capacity building into organizations over an extended period of time so new capacities are truly developed
A quick fix is like nailing up boards in the shape of a tree, and expecting it to be a real tree. If you wish to have a real tree, you must provide a sapling with time, water, sunlight, and good soil so it can develop to its full potential. So it is with capacity building.
Our core five facilitators have over forty-seven years of combined experience helping organizations fulfill their missions. We continue to live the legacy of commitment and personal service that is the heritage of small businesses everywhere.
