Facilitation: Support For Key Conversations

Client Comments

"What sets IWS apart is personality, as well as tone. I have worked with other consultants, but here I felt that we were not forced into the decisions - that is, we defined the problem (with your help), we brainstormed (with your guidance) and we determined a solution (with your analysis)."
I. Frosch, Entrepreneur, Denver, CO

Creating valuable opportunities for people to work together via telephone, video conference, or face-to-face requires conversations that genuinely address what is most important.
We work with clients to create a meeting environment that will move the issues forward and demonstrate real progress to participants.

Having a facilitator frees participants from worrying about the meeting process. Instead, they can focus on real areas of concern: the issues at stake and the reason they called the meeting! Additionally, facilitation can add value to important discussions by adding clarity to the issues through observations, suggestions, and drawing on the perspectives of all group members.

IWS' facilitation services are frequently drawn upon for organizational strategic planning, conferences or other events, and as an unbiased third party to support working through difficult issues. Call us to discuss your next challenging meeting and we will explore how we can assist you in achieving your objectives.

Examples of recent facilitation projects:

Large Technical Conference
1. A large technical conference with many experts in attendance wants to tap into the knowledge of the group to address critical issues. The challenge was to obtain detailed input from 200 scientists and researchers and to share that information by the end of the conference. IWS facilitators worked closely with conference organizers to design breakout sessions, discussion questions, and ways to electronically capture the results from the groups. The meeting was highly successful with rave reviews from many scientists who previously thought there was no need for facilitation services.

Non-profit Regional Conference
2. Ensuring that remote and rural areas have appropriate healthcare providers is a complex process involving organizations at the state, federal, and local level. They must work together to recruit, place, train, and monitor vacancies for doctors and other health professionals. When a client's system needed re-designing, IWS worked with stakeholders, researchers, and administrators to engage in discussions that clarified the issues and outlined steps for improvements.

Small Business Focus-Building
3. A small business management team needed support to overcome barriers to communication and obtain clarity about their focus and mission. Working with an IWS facilitator, they were able to map out their shared responsibilities, as well as develop an improved understanding about how to work more effectively together.
